Monday, May 7, 2012---Sereno won more State Cup titles over the weekend than any other Arizona club despite the fact that some of our top ECNL girls teams did not participate in the event.  The 94 Boys White, 95 Boys White, and 96 Girls White all brought home the Arizona State Cup trophy!  The 96 Girls White defeated arch rival Sc Del Sol 4-1 in a physical and thrilling match giving the girls their 6th straight State Cup Championship.  The 95 Boys White also knocked off arch rival Sc Del Sol 1-0 in a hard faught match giving the boys their 2nd straight title.  Finally, the 94 Boys White won their 4th straight title with a win 3-1 win over the Blackhawks. The 99 Girls White, 99 Boys White, and 97 Boys White all took 2nd place, the 00 Boys White West took 3rd while both the 00 Boys White Tucson and the 96 Boys White South finished 4th. The following teams will be participating at Regionals in June here in PHOENIX: 94 BW, 95 BW, 97 BW, and 96 GW.  Sereno has the potential for 2 more state cup titles with the 93 boys and girls playing over Memorial Day Weekend.  Congratulations to all the teams for all their hard work and dedication!  Thank you to all the parents and fans that made the drive to Casa Grande to support the teams.  

May 2, 2012---Sereno will have 9 teams competing in this weekend’s State Cup semi-finals hosted at the Grande Sports World in Casa Grande.  The following boys teams will be competing:  94WB, 95WB, 96WB South, 97WB, 99WB, 00WB West, and 00WB Tucson.  The 96GW and 99GW will also be competing this weekend.  There were 24 teams that represented SERENO in State Cup of which 20 made it to the quarter-finals.  The 94 ECNL Girls, 97 ECNL Girls, and 98 ECNL girls did not compete in State Cup due to ECNL scheduling conflicts. Jorian and Gabriela (96 Girls ECNL Team) have just been named in the Girls National Top 150 prospects to watch! Jorian is currently ranked #13 and Gabriela is ranked #104. Congratulations to both players on such a great accomplishment! 

Top Drawer Soccer

The number #1 selling sports newspaper in Portugal "A Bola" (The Ball) featured Brooks Lennon, a U15 national team player on the front cover. Lennon was in Portugal for a tryout with the Academy at Sporting Lisbon after previously spending a week with the Academy at Aston Villa. Lennon was delighted with the opportunity to show his skills to the Academy. Our own coach, Joao Bento, introduced Brooks to the Academy Director at Sporting Lisbon after he coordinated for Brooks to spend time last year with Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal. The Vitoria Guimaraes Coach told Bento he would sign Brooks anytime. At the end of the week with Sporting Lisbon, the Academy invited him to stay for two more weeks, because of school constraints Brooks was unable to stay longer    but will be returning in four weeks to continue training. Bento’s connections in Portugal contacted him after watching Brooks train and said he reminds them of a young Cristiano Ronaldo, the way Brooks runs, attacks and beats the defenders.

CASSIE MILLER (95 ECNL) has been named by U17 Women's National Team Coach Albertin Montoya, to the 20 player roster for the 2012 CONCACAF U17 Women's Championship to be held in Guatemala City, Guatemala May 2-12, 2012.

90 coaches from top colleges across the country attended the girls games in San Diego. Some of the college coaches present were from: Purdue, Loyola Marymount,UCLA,Boston College,Wake Forest,Baylor,Oregon State,Rice,Stanford,Berkeley,U. Of Hawaii,Texas A&M,Notre Dame,Brown University,USC,Santa Clara,Georgetown,University Of North Carolina,Harvard,Penn State,Northwestern,     Pepperdine,Syracuse,Princeton,Duke and Dartmouth.

The 01 White Girls met the 00 Elite Girls in the finals of President Cup, they came away with the championship with a 2-0 win. They played 6 hard fought games scoring 14 goals and only giving up 3. Congratulations to both teams on a great season!

The 98 Boys South White participated in the Las Vegas Players College Showcase recently and dominated, with an impressive win to start off the weekend over an IL team with a 6-0 victory. They went on to tie the #1 ranked Hawaii team, and added another win over a NV team and met the Hawaii team again in the finals. They successfully beat them in the finals 3-2. Congratulations on a great weekend filled with over 350 college coaches! 

Travel drama can’t derail Sereno’s stellar Jefferson Cup Performance!

Schwan’s USA Cup is the greatest international youth soccer tournament in the western hemisphere. In 2011 it showcased more than 940 teams and 14,000 soccer players from 20 states and 17 countries. The 96 Girls ECNL Team has been invited to participate in the PUMA vs Elite Division. The winning girls team will be traveling to Europe for a trip to work with Sweden’s famous Umea IK women’s side. Umea has won seven Swedish Championships since 2000 and have won the UEFA Women’s Champions League twice while serving as runner-up three times.
